Situated in the heart of Potchefstroom, thrift store enthusiasts will find a goldmine of pre-loved goods in the Gerrit Worstsaal. Second Life Goods Store has been selling clothes, books and various assortments since 2019. Their success is not only due to their affordable prices, ranging from R15 to R70, but they have also given back to the Potchefstroom-community by initiating various charitable efforts.

This thrift store started out as a dream for Minister Janneman van Wyk and other church members. This dream stemmed from the influx of clothes they received due to church donations. For this reason, Van Wyk saw it fit to open a large store where Potchefstroom residents can find affordable second hand clothes.

Although the store caters to the general public, Second Life Goods Store makes it their goal to assist anyone struggling to make ends meet. Susan Kilian, the floor manager of this philanthropic store, told Wapad of one of their heartwarming endeavours: “We donate ripped denims to a woman who uses them to make rugs, as well as old t-shirts to a man who then repurposes them as rags for mechanical work.”. They frequently give away clothes to those in need, not only in Potchefstroom but also in other towns like Springbok and Krugersdorp.

Second Life Good Store’s revenue is distributed across the community. “We also offer work to the unemployed and we recently built a church in Ikageng. On top of that, we serve food to the municipal apartments on Wednesdays,” Van Wyk listed.

Second Life Goods Store is solely reliant on donations. Therefore, taking the initiative to donate some old clothes lying around will not only benefit the store but also the community. They accept anything from jackets, caps, baby clothes and even books.

Make sure to support this charitable thrift store on 79 Beyers Naude Avenue. By thrifting at Second Life Good Store you are not only buying both affordable and stylish clothing but you are also part of a charitable endeavour and making an eco-friendly choice.
