ACADEMIC SCAVENGER HUNT: BELLATRIX TRIUMPHS

On 18 July the town residences battled it out against each other in an academic scavenger hunt. The female town residences are LaVaria, Dinki and Bellatrix, and the male town residences are Heimat and Villagers. This scavenger hunt was arranged by the Academic Portfolio of the House Committee (HC) of each town residence. 

The Academics sub-committee entails more than what meets the eye. The sub-committee is responsible for the promotion of a conducive academic atmosphere in the residence, relaying all academic information to residents and ensuring that there is assistance for each academic inquiry and the interviewing and selection of the Academic Advisors. The selection panel consists of the Academics HC member and a senior in the residence. 

The management of the Academic Advisors and the support system they provide in the residence promote the training programs offered by the North-west University’s Academic Support Services and ensure that students receive academic achievements in the residence. 

“The purpose of this event is for all the day houses to flex their brains and logical skills, and compete in a fun academic event. The event includes reverse Pictionary, sudoku and a whole lot more. This will help bridge the gap between day houses and for the participants to get to know people in their day house as well as the other day houses,” said Tasha Marais, Academic HC of LaVaria. 

Six LaVaria ladies, eight Bellatrix ladies and three Dinki ladies took part. Four men from Villagers and one from Heimat also took part. Each game had to be completed within a certain amount of time, every minute that passed resulted in a mark that was deducted, starting every game on 20 marks. 

The scavenger hunt took place all over campus and Bellatrix finished first and won the battle. The academic HC’s did a fantastic job in the construction of the games. There were overall five challenges that the town residences had to complete. The games that were played were: a crossword puzzle, guess the pattern, sudoku, word ladder and reverse Pictionary.
