The North-West (NW) Dragons are preparing for a thrilling T20 double-header this weekend, taking on Western Province on Friday and Boland on Sunday at the JB Marks Oval. After securing a vital win against the Knights, the Dragons are eager to maintain their momentum and continue their strong performance in the T20 Challenge.
The Dragons claimed a narrow victory over the Knights, winning by just 3 runs in their opening match of the campaign at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. Following this hard-fought win, the team is focused on maintaining their positive morale. Wapad sat down with the Dragons’ players to discuss their reflections on the previous game, their preparations for the upcoming matches, and more.
Kerwin Mungroo, NW Dragons’ right hand fast bowler, was named the Player of the Match following his brilliant performance, restricting Knights to just 1 in the crucial final over. The player expressed that this recognition is a proud moment for him and he is delighted to contribute to his team’s success.
“I’ve been playing T20 cricket for a while now, and I’ve always tried to contribute to the team. I take pride in that. Being named Player of the Match is just a bonus for me. What matters the most is contributing in a meaningful way to the team’s success,” said Mungroo.
The Dragons are now switching their focus to their game against Western Province on Friday afternoon, a team that will be playing its first game of the campaign after their match against Boland was abandoned.
Lesiba Ngoepe, NW Dragons’ batsman and vice-captain, says his side has a score to settle against Western Province and the team is preparing hard for both games.
“Western Province is quite a strong side. They beat us here last year, so we definitely have a score to settle with them. We need to make sure we throw the first punch and are ready for the challenge they bring. The team is in great shape, and we’ve been working hard, so we’re more than ready for both games,” said Ngoepe.
The home side is anticipating a full crowd at the JB Marks Oval for both games, and Thamsanqa Khumalo, the Dragons’ batsman, is encouraging fans to come out in numbers for the team’s first home game of the campaign.
“Show up in full force! We’d love for you to come out and support us. We’re excited to see everyone at our first home game of the season, and we’re aiming to win both matches. We can’t wait to have you there!” said Khumalo.
