Paradoksaal.
Waaraan dink jy as jy “Murder Mystery” hoor? Bloed, bene, moord en spanning? Alles behalwe!

English Translation:
Paradoxical. That’s the theme that summed up Thalia Toneel’s last performance of the year, Murder Mystery, on 2 October in the Totius Hall on campus.
Murder Mystery was performed in collaboration with the North-West University’s (NWU) dance group, Disfunctional Beat (DFB). The moments inbetween Murder Mystery’s scenes were enhanced with amazing dance moves to popular music. This delighted the audience.
What do you think of when you hear “Murder Mystery”? Blood, bones, murder and suspense? Thalia Toneel’s Murder Mystery was anything but this! With a light, yet mysterious storyline and witty, comedic phrases, which were both pleasant surprises to the audience. Three of Thalia Toneel’s board members were featured in Murder Mystery. In addition to that, Murder Mystery was written by Thalia Toneel’s management.
Murder Mystery was about a group of people who hung out together in the town’s coffee shop every now and then, and how the characters were then killed off one by one without any explanation.
The audience had to keep their thinking caps on, because every single thing that happened could give a possible clue to who the killer was. Each character portrayed familiar stereotypes of our society, with whom the audience could identify to an extent.
The typical “gym rat” was on stage. He only spoke muscle-language and tried to convince everyone that he didn’t use steroids. The “it girl” and her “minions” were there, a group of girls who are so jealous of each other but they still remain false friends. And the standard bookworm also reared their head.
At the end, it was revealed to the audience that the killer was the town’s detective, Detective Misalles, who was investigating these cases. He was working with the owner of the coffee shop, Tannie Rylene, who helped him commit the murders.
“My favorite part of Murder Mystery was where I, Stacy 2, burned Big Stacey to a crisp in the sunbed, because then it seems like it was I who killed the other people too, even though I didn’t,” said Kyla Prinsloo, Thalia Toneel’s Chairperson.
Karla Luyt, the person responsible for Thalia Toneel’s marketing, and who also played the role of Berta the Bookworm, said that Thalia Toneel had a “lekker” year. “With our management team, all the actors and the committee, it worked out really well. Everyone worked hard together, it was a fantastic year, a success,” Luyt said.
Luan van den Heever, Thalia Toneel’s Production Manager and the person who played Dyllan the “gym rat”, said that he would be able to sum up Thalia Toneel’s year as an experience. “Tonight it ended completely on the right note,” he said.
When asked what was next for Thalia Toneel, Van den Heever replied, “Our dream was to take Thalia Toneel higher, and we did. I believe next year’s management’s dream will be to take Thalia Toneel even higher.”
