NWU’S SINGING ANGELS

Have you ever asked yourself how it would feel to be in a room of singing angels? Well, the NWU Serenaders and NWU Voices of the River (VOR) answered that question at the Inter-Campus Choral Music Concert hosted at the Totius Hall on Saturday evening, 10 May. 

An audience that consisted of students and family from both campuses gathered that evening to celebrate the gift of music. The night began with guests being ushered in with a beautiful violin performance. The audience was then astonished at every performance of the evening, from the NWU Serenaders singing ‘Phambili Makholwa’ to NWU’s very own Boys to Men: BLACK NOTE Ensemble.  

According to Wikipedia, serenades are typically light and calm, but that description could not be further from the truth from how the NWU Serenaders executed their performances. Their songs were not light; they carried a message and nostalgia that connected the audience to their piece. You could tell the singers and conductors loved what they were doing. Every note was intentional, every smile was genuine, and every move was captivating. During the performances you could hear people clapping, ululating and the occasional ‘mmm’, the audience was brought to life through music.

It was truly a gift to witness such talent on stage. After watching a performance like that you are sure to leave with a newfound appreciation for music.
