The North-West University (NWU) has a phenomenal law faculty that provides quality legal education, undertakes focused research and is involved in the community. Not only does the faculty provide multiple projects, learning opportunities and practical assessments, but the Law faculty also hosts many events for their students to enjoy throughout the year.  On 24 July, the Law Faculty crowned their very own Mr and Miss Law Faculty 25/26, where Christo Martin and Tsakane Ndlovu walked away with the crown and title, and that night they also hosted their informal dine.

In addition, the faculty had an excursion where 62 students visited the Constitution Hill and learned about South African legal history and the significance of human rights and constitutional law. During the year, the Law Faculty also contributes to many events like Open Day, Word Wise Week, Barefoot Day, Canned Food and Career Day, to name a few. With their vibrant stalls and can-do attitude, the Law Faculty always brightens up an event.

The Deputy Chairperson, Gugulethu Tshatshela, organised a picnic for the law students to meet their subcommittees, and the event ended up being colourful, vibrant and unifying.  NWU’s law liaison office also organised a faculty breakfast for faculty members, and the Law Faculty actively participates in NWU sports, such as basketball and netball. Finally, the faculty also competed in debate and the Community and Stakeholder Engagement (CSE) competition.

We can all take inspiration from this faculty to remember that creating team harmony doesn’t have to be extravagant but should rather be focused on people getting to know each other. Noa le Roux, a first-year law student, says she chose to study law at NWU because it combines high academic standards with a strong commitment to practical skills development. “NWU’s strong focus on community engagement and transformative constitutionalism ensures graduates are equipped to make a meaningful impact in society while advancing their own professional success.” As a law student, le Roux is aware of the events her faculty hosts and supports them often. “The events help take your mind off studying for a while,” she said. Her favourite event thus far has been the movie night.

While each NWU faculty hosts its own events, the Law Faculty stands out with its uniquely law-focused gatherings. If you want to stay updated on their events, follow the Law Faculty on their media page: @lawsac.nwu.
