Sport is a vital component of residence life and often gives residences the biggest bragging rights. All the sports that the residences participate in counts toward the Sport Cup. Small sports count less points than the big sports, which usually continue over a longer period, apart from athletics.
The sports calendar has mostly stayed the same over the years. In the bigger sports, netball starts first but it overlaps with hockey and these two usually finish in the first semester. In the second semester there is soccer as well as athletics day.
Apart from the annual residence sport, there is also first year’s sport, which includes netball, hockey and soccer. These sports don’t count toward the Sport Cup but are rather seen as a way for the first years to acclimate themselves within the residence and connect with their fellow residents. These sports normally take place within the first few weeks of the first semester.
In the bigger sports, such as netball and soccer, most residences opt to sign up two teams, but smaller residences usually don’t have the numbers to do that.

Fun fact: It is not free for residences to participate in the Sport Cup; they must pay an entrance fee for each team they enter.
