Have you ever gotten bored of doing the same thing every week? Whether it’s staying in, going to Musics every night, or hosting the same braai weekend after weekend, doing the same things over and over can get boring – fast.

As a Potch-student, there are many things to do this spring to alleviate your boredom. Whether you’re a social butterfly, a lover of the outdoors, or a homebody, there is something for anyone looking to spice up their calendar.

1. For the nature lovers

For those who consider themselves lovers of nature, OPM Prozesky Bird Sanctuary may be a good stop if you’re looking to do some bird watching or to see some picturesque sunsets and break away from the chaos of student and city life. Located in the rural area near Mooirivier Mall, the wildlife refuge is a quick car ride away.

2. For the homebodies

For the homebodies, a visit to the Royal Tree Spa and Guesthouse or the Potchefstroom Museum may be just the solitary comfort you need. With the distance from NWU campus to Royal Tree Spa being 2.1 km, and the museum 2.6 km, relaxation is just a short walk away.

3. For the adventurers

For the adventurous, K1 Karting in Mooirivier Mall is a great place to have some fun. Open seven days a week and with prices ranging from R120 to R750, go-karting is made fun and affordable for when you and your friends are itching for an adrenaline rush.

4. For the gym rats

CrossFit Potchefstroom, located in the Bult, is just the place for those looking to blow off some steam in the form of exercise. Open six days a week, with personal training, private lessons, youth classes, and CrossFit, this is the ideal place for a good workout and a coffee or a meal in the Bult with a friend.

5. For the social butterflies

Lastly, for the social butterflies, Dome Distillery or Route 96 Brewery might be the place for you. Dome Distillery is a mere nine minutes’ drive from campus and offers gin tastings and pairings. Route 96 Brewery offers a range of beers, wines, and food to choose from, not to mention paintball facilities to add a bit of excitement to your visit.

Potchefstroom is a place brimming with activities to occupy your time. Don’t stick to the same old, dull routine, when there are so many exciting things to do just a short walk or drive away.
