DYSFUNCTIONAL BEAT: AROUND THE WORLD IN ONE NIGHT

The dance group Dysfunctional Beat (DFB) had their annual showcase on Wednesday 1 October, where the crowd travelled around the world in the form of dance in one night.

 

The tour included USA’s hip-hop that we see in the movies. This dance was recreated in different styles and dance moves that showcased the perfect visual of what hip-hop is. These moves certainly are ones you can bust out on the dancefloor! The crew recreated a scene of the famous sing- along movie Pitch Perfect, which was a pleasant surprise for the audience.

 

Rio had feathers and the colour blue all over the stage. Except there weren’t birds, although the dancers sure flew across the stage in their flightless colourful feathers. They left the stage on fire after shaking their tail feathers!

 

Landing in France, the dancers bloomed with flower-like dresses dancing on the famous and catchy Can-Can, which had the crowd hopping along with the beat.

 

The audience was mesmerized by colours blending into one, and dancers moving smoothly and flexibly, bringing the energy of India to life.

 

Devaco collaborated with DFB on Amapiano, where the crowd went wild with cheers. The Amapiano dance wasn’t for those of us with the speed of a sloth.

 

The dancers twirling with red roses and elegant black dresses, to the well-known music when fighting a bull in Spain, had the crowd sitting on the edge of their seat in anticipation.

 

The crowd was thunderstruck! Texas like you’ve never seen before with the blue costumes and the signature white star with bouncing white and blue pom- poms.

 

The night was full of cultural dance moves, cheers and heartfelt moments. The flight took a moment for those lost and now live amongst the clouds. This was a moment for everyone who ever lost someone to take a moment to remember them. The two dancers moved with emotion stirring a roller-coaster of emotion in the crowd. Reminding everyone to hold on.

 

This is a dedicated and energetic team that has a love for dancing. They are more than a hard-working team — they are family, standing with each other through the difficult times and the laugh-till-you-cry moments. The chairperson, Venette Hudson, spoke about her team with a loving ear-splitting smile.

 

Dysfunctional Beat is for anybody and everyone, even those with 2 left feet or fresh out of high school, and for those that believe old dogs can learn new tricks.

 

This team is more than just dancers, they are storytellers, dreamers and a family that continues to inspire everyone who watches them. Keep your eyes open for the next unforgettable tour.
