The North-West University (NWU) Potchefstroom campus’ International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World 3 x 3 registered tournament has commenced.
This year’s basketball campaign has been up to a few endeavours this year, marked by the arrival of “Coach Carter”-one Thuso Moiloa. The campus courts have arguably never been so busy.
After holding player trials andassessments, quickly establishing senior first and second teams, selecting captains and vices, and hosting an intercampus friendly tournament; Coach Carter is now the organiser of two internal FIBA 3 x 3 tournaments.
All students, including and beyond the senior team players, were invited to register teams of 4 players (3 starters, 1 roller/substitute) in the tournaments’ online FIBA link to participate.
The tournament is called ‘NWU 3×3 Basketball League’ and is currently under its second edition, having begun this past Friday, 10 May. The first edition concluded on 2 May, having commenced 19 March.
A team registered by the name “Hoop Tribe” (composed of Vhukhudo Mphaphuli, Vuyani Mpolweni, Lesedi “Cena” Mputle, and Katlego Tlhalatsi) won the men’s contest. “Skyscrapers” (consisting of Lebogang Manthata, Maya, Nthabeleng Mokhele, and Phemello “Mello” Ramasike) of the ladies’ contest were the victors.
The second edition concludes on Friday, 31 May, and there may still be time to register teams of 3 (max 4), or join registered teams who have space for one or two members.
The competition resumes this Friday, 17 May, from 19:00- 21:00, and there’s plenty room and music for spectators.
