The heart of the Potchefstroom North-West University (NWU) campus pulsed with excitement as glasses clinked, food sizzled, and students eagerly awaited the arrival of their newly elected House Committee (HC) members, who would soon enter the building alongside their new sleep residences. On 22 October, at the iconic Drakenstein restaurant, the NWU celebrated one of its most cherished traditions: the announcement of residence sleep pairings for the 2025–2026 term.
While the HC members embarked on an exclusive adventure to discover their new sleep partners, residence students gathered in the Draak to bid farewell to their previous sleep residences and welcome their new pairings (“slepies“) with energy and anticipation. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, though a few students expressed disappointment with the results.
As English monk and poet John Lydgate once said, “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.” A fitting reminder for the Puk Committee (PK), who face the challenging task of pairing over ten residences each year.
The following list shows the sleep pairings for the term 2025/2026:
As students celebrated the new term with their new HC members, one could not help but feel a sense of belonging not only within their residence but within the university and its nostalgic and fun traditions. We are excited to see what each sleep pairing will achieve next year and look forward to all the fun and creative ideas that will emerge.
