The North-West University (NWU) choir, conducted by Kobus Venter, has captivated audiences once again with their latest ten-track album, Resonans. This has marked a new creative chapter for choral music on campus.
The NWU choir, known for its rich harmonies and dynamic performances, has long been a cultural cornerstone on campus. It has brought students together through their shared love for choral music. Over the years the choir has built a reputation for musical excellence, performing across various stages in the world and representing the university with pride.
This new highly anticipated project highlighted the choir’s vocal strength but also captured the dedication behind months of rehearsals and recording sessions which solidified their sound. Maulize van der Linde, a management member of the choir, said that the Resonans year was one of her favourites and it had caused her love for choral music to grow. She said that the NWU choir and the Resonans year are so much more than just a group of people who sing together; it’s that incredibly special bond between choir members that is built on unconditional support, respect, commitment, inside jokes and care for each other.
Oluchi Jones, a management member of the NWU choir and credited soloist for Resonans, said that recording the album was nerve-wracking but also fun, as it was a first-time experience for her. She mentioned that seeing the final product coming together after months of hard work and tweaking made everything worth it.
The man behind the great NWU choir, Kobus Venter, said, “The inspiration behind Resonans was the choir’s 70th anniversary in 2025, celebrated with a big reunion in November. Our music reflects the journey the choir has travelled and how it still resonates with us today, and hopefully, the things we do today will still resonate with the choir in the future.”
The release of Resonans marked more than just a musical milestone for the NWU choir – it captured voices, stories and shared passion for music.
