‘The Jungle Book’ is ‘n klassieke.

Die plasings was as volg:

Beste Reëling:

Kasteel en Veritas

Beste Eie Komposisie:

Laureus en Dinki

Beste Tema:

Excelsior en Vergeet-My-Nie (VMN)

Beste Medley:

Kasteel en Veritas

Algehele Wenners:

1. Excelsior en VMN
2. Laureus en Dinki

WHEN THE LIGHTS FALL AND SHADOWS SING: BINGLE SÊR 2026

Translated by Simoné de Witt

From motorcyclists to all kinds of cats, and zoo animals, Bingle Serenade had it all. The stage was lively with different slepe, and their interpretation of a famous play. Not only did they dance, but their voices were like a lulling melody that enchanted the audience.

Bingle Serenade (Bingle Sêr) is an annual event where competitive slepe combine performances, singing, and dancing to showcase their interpretation of the chosen play. This year, Bingle Sêr took place on March 24, 2026, at Snowflake Venue.

Sleep 1 opened with a fun production of ‘Teen Beach Movie‘. The melodies took the audience back to the sand, the sea, and hair blowing in the wind on motorcycle rides.

Sleep 2 took the Afrikaans audience back to the comedy film, ‘As Jy Sing‘. The well-known ‘Kamp kan nie dood‘ had the audience laughing out loud.

Sleep 3 impressed the audience with a cat-based production. This production featured various cats, such as Cat in the Hat, Puss in Boots, the Chinese Lucky Cat, Hello Kitty, and a few unrecognisable cats in between. They sang a song that was entirely sung by cats.

Sleep 4 took the audience on an adventure through all the ‘bear necessities of life’. ‘The Jungle Book‘ is a classic.

Sleep 5 performed High School Musical, which made us all think of our once-upon-a-time high school life. This group gracefully reminded us that life is better together than alone.

Sleep 6 ended the first half with a phenomenal performance of ‘Aladdin‘ in ‘The Lion King‘. This strange but wonderful combination led to lifelong friendships, but also the realisation that it is nice to have a home to yourself.

The second half of the show began with Sleep 7, who performed their interpretation of the Afrikaans comic musical ‘As Jy Sing’. Although it was the second group’s interpretation of ‘As Jy Sing’, they made it their own — in some ways similar, yet completely different.

Sleep 8 followed with a performance of the musical, ‘Chicago‘. Their flashy jazz-like dance routine enchanted the audience, and made them feel as if they were in the 1920’s.

Sleep 9 featured a few different ‘Annies’, such as drunk Annie, fat Annie, orphan Annie, and Annie with parents — all accused of a murder. This comedic play made the audience laugh until they got a ‘sixpack’ on their ‘sixpack’.

Sleep 10 presented the beloved comedic musical ‘Grease,’ where the audience knew every lyric of the songs.

Sleep 11 concluded the performances with an outstanding presentation of ‘The Penguins of Madagascar‘. The actors not only painted themselves as penguins, but truly brought out their inner penguin to win the audience’s hearts. The musical numbers they performed encouraged the audience to sing along as if they were on stage. According to three members of the audience, Sleep 11 excelled and evoked the most emotion from the audience. Runé du Plessis, a member of the audience, explained that King Julian and Mort are an iconic, and humorous duo that makes the audience burst out laughing. And who does not sing along when Moto-Moto comes near?

It would not be an NWU-SCC event if there was not a dance break while the judges finalised their scoring. For that moment, it was not about winning or losing, but about singing and dancing together with your fellow residence members as if they had not just stepped off the stage. Eventually, the scores were settled and the audience (now a mix of performers and spectators) gathered together to hear their names. The placements were as follows:

Best Arrangement:

Kasteel and Veritas

Best Own Composition:

Laureus and Dinki

Best Theme:

Excelsior and Vergeet-My-Nie (VMN)

Best Medley:

Kasteel and Veritas

Overall Winners:

1. Excelsior and VMN

2. Laureus and Dinki

3. Veritas and Kasteel

Each performance had skillful musical adaptations of various well-known songs, such as Leeuloop by Robbie Wessels, and a smooth blend of singing, dancing, and acting. The audience truly experienced how each group of talented young students brought the stage to life.
