New year, new me! These are the four words commonly abused at the beginning of each year without failure. The new year is normally a time to reinvent yourself, start afresh and even set new goals to accomplish. Hence, the phrase “new year, new me” or the trend of setting new year’s resolutions.
According to Tracy Brower, a Forbes Magazine writer, your resolutions could be a way to boost your confidence for the year as you tick off accomplished goals. However, they could also set you up for failure, leaving you demotivated due to setting unrealistic goals. This, in turn, leads to the failure of achieving your goals.
I, for one, am a participant in setting new year’s resolutions and if there is one thing my 2022 resolutions taught me it’s to not bite off more than I can chew. The same way in which “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, is the same way you can’t expect to cut off bad habits or become an expert at something in a matter of days or even weeks. You slowly have to cut down or gradually evolve and grow. Don’t forget to give yourself grace while you’re at it. Treat your resolutions as a journey, not a race!
